I believe that these pictures date from when my Mother was quite young, and living in Ismailia in Egypt.  Ismailia is on the west side of the Suez Canal, about half way between Port Said and Suez.  The picture on the right was her passport photograph.

I wonder where all the Uncles went!  On the left, my late aunt Effi.  Not sure when, but a good while ago.  On the right, taken in the early 1980s, my Mother with Aunt Effi again, in red, and her daughter Urania who died tragically in her 20s not too long after this picture was taken.
These pictures are of my Mother, before she met my Father, and of other members of her family.  This includes my Maternal Grandparents, and all my maternal Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.  I have included only those pictures where my Father, my Sister and I are not present.  I received many of the pictures below from my cousin Panayotis.

My Mother as a Young Woman

William's Mother's Family

My maternal grand-parents with their eldest daughter, my Aunt Maritza in Smyrna (the old name or Izmir as it is now known) in Turkey.  It probably dates from about 1910 or so.
From the left: My Mother, my Aunt Effi, my Aunt Angele, who is still alive and living in France, and someone we do not know on the right.  Taken in the 1940s.
An unknown cousin (left) with my Mother on the right.  Must be from the early 1940s.
From the left: My Mother, an unknown cousin, and my Aunt Maritza.  Again, from the 1940s.
A family picnic in Ismailia, Egypt, in the early 1940s.  From the left:
• An unkown couple;
• my Aunt Maritza and her husband, Uncle George Caroussos;
• in the foreground, their children my cousins Panayotis and Nina;
• my Mother dancing with her brother, my Uncle Andreas.
Cousin Panayotis and his family enjoying a meal out in a restaurant.
Panayotis' family, without him!
