Vacations -
Maine - Bar Harbor
St Saviour's Episcopal Church, in Bar Harbor, is well known for its' genuine and spectacular Tiffany windows. They also have an interesting Civil War Memorial. We bought a picture that once hung in the church from a local thrift store.
A series of views looking out from the top of Mount Desert Island.
Somes Sound was created by a glacier that was over a mile high, and up to two miles thick. Having retreated, one of the results was Somes Sound. It is seven miles long, and the only fjord on the east coast of the United States.
This presaged a very stormy night, followed by the gloomy day shown in the picture to the right!
The Seaside Grill is a restaurant that we like a lot; very plain and simple. It is much less touristy than most, and in fact we found a lot of their customers are locals rather than visitors. Great lobster, and one of the best burgers I have ever had. Other restaurants that we we particularly like include the Route 66 Diner and Testa's. Both are great fun with really good food.
Bar Harbor & Surrounding Area
Lunch at the small Soda Fountain in the local drug store. Good toasted sandwiches and milkshakes.

Once you get off the beaten track, Bar Harbor can be quite rural! |

A superb hotel and gourmet restaurant, not something in which we indulge too often. |

This was our first time in Bar Harbor without a full breakfast at the hotel. We found Adelmann's, and got to know Tim. I particularly liked his version of the Stanley Cup which the Boston Bruins went on to win this year (2011). Great food, prices & service.
