Plymouth
As I say in the introduction to Cape Cod, Plymouth is not technically a part of the Cape. We have visited twice; once, several years ago, on our way south from Maine to the Cape, and once on our way home in 2011. One would have to say that the three main industries in Plymouth are tourism, tourism and tourism.
Mayflower II; a replica of the original Mayflower
The Plymouth Rock is located in a somewhat impressive structure on the warfront near the Mayflower II. It was placed here in 1920 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Pilgrims' landing. This is not its original location as it has been moved a number of times, the first, in 1774, resulting in the rock breaking into two! The first mention of the rock was in 1741 when the person who identified it did so based on a description handed down from his father. There is an interesting history of the Plymouth Rock here. The Pilgrim Hall Museum is just behind the Rock, across the road, and is the oldest public museum in the USA.

The original Mayflower was the ship on which the Pilgrims traveled from the UK to America, landing, firstly in Provincetown and then at a more hospitable Plymouth in 1620. The Mayflower II is a replica that was built at the Upham Shipyard in Brixham, which is in Devon, England, between 1955 and 1956. She is seaworthy, and after her completion sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to her home in Plymouth, and also sailed to Providence, RI in 2002.

The Town & Harbor
Some general views of the town and the harbor. An interesting shopping center with a seating area that had a ceiling decorated using buoys. It was a quiet place to sit after the hurly-burly of the town.
Apparently, Ernie's Restaurant has been something of a fixture in Plymouth for around 60 years. We found it serendipitously. It was an excellent find to which we will return when next we visit Plymouth. Good food with great service and prices.
