Visit:

Brenton Point National Park

Brenton Point lies midway along Ocean Drive, and provides spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and Narragansett Bay.  The English Governor William Brenton owned the land in the 17th century, when the area was known as Hammersmith after the area in London from which he originated.
Fort Adams was established in 1799, and rebuilt between 1824 and 1857.  While it was active during the Mexican-American War, the Civil War and the Spanish-American War, as well as the two World Wars, there was never any military engagement.
