Ochre Court

Ochre Court is the second largest of the Newport mansions, after The Breakers.  It was designed by the architect Richard Morris Hunt, who designed many of the mansions including The Breakers, Marble House and Belcourt.  The building is owned by the Salve Regina University.

it was built in 1892 for Ogden Goelet as a summer home.  Ogden Goelet belonged to one of the oldest and wealthiest of New York families.  He spent much time in Europe, and was a friend of the Prince of Wales.  He died in August 1897 on board his yatch Mayflower while it was moored in Cowes on the Isle of Wight in England.
