Mercury

Images of Mercury

Two images from the MESSENGER probe taken in 2008 showing the two faces of the planet. The Kuiper crater is just below the center in the right hand image.
A mosaic comprising 18 images of Mercury taken by Mariner 10, as the spacecraft was out bound after the first flyby. The bright crater with "rays" coming from it at the top right is called Degas; it is about 45 km (28 miles) across.
All images on this page are credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech, and come from either the Mariner 10 Mission, or the Messenger Mission
Three close-up mages of Mercury taken by Mariner 10
The large crater to the upper left is the Amru Al-Qays crater, which is about 50 km (31.25 miles) across.
The large Brahms Crater which is about 75 km (47 miles) in diameter.  You can see the peak at the center.
You can just see the Wren crater in the lower center of the image.  It is about 215 km (135 miles) across, with a number of smaller craters inside its boundary. Towards the right hand side of the image you can see the meandering Antoniadi Dorsum, which is around 450 km(280 miles) long.
The Caloris Basin, one of the largest in the Solar System, was discovered in 1974 from images taken by Mariner 10.  It is about 1,550 km (nearly 1,000 miles) across, and circled by mountains some 2 km (1.2 miles) high.
