Broome County in Central New York, is bounded by Tioga County to the west, Cortland County to the northwest, Chenango County to the northeast, Delaware County to the east, and Wayne and Susquehanna Counties in Pennsylvania to the south. Binghamton University is one of four centers of the State University of New York (SUNY). The county seat is Binghamton which is located towards the center of the southern part of the county. In its present form, Broome County split from Tioga County in 1806.
