2012 Myths

I became increasingly irritated by the utter garbage that was published about the doom scenarios of 2012.  Where was the science?  Where was the evidence?  How could scientists have been covering up something that should have been visible to the naked eye (planet Nibiru) if it exists?  This was far more ridiculous than the Y2K business; at least there was some possibility of difficulties arising there.  What we had were people (authors, website owners, movie studios) who were just making money out of gullibility.  The Skeptic's Dictionary did a very good debunking of the whole myth, with a particularly sensible denouncing of Zecharia Sitchin's idiocy.  David Morrison of NASA also did an excellent debunking job on his "ask an Astrobiologist" site.

In this section, for historical interest, I have retained details of some of the claims, none of which ever came to pass.  Just select a topic from the menu on the left.
