New York State
Capital District - Columbia County
This is our home county; our village is right at the northern edge, near the border with Rensselaer County.  Details of where we live, and the immediate surroundings, are described with loads of photographs in the "Where We Live" section of "our House".

The area now known as Columbia County was first explored by Henry Hudson back in 1609 when it was inhabited by the Mohican Indians.  The county formally came into being in 1786 after the Revolutionary War.  It was created from part of Albany County and then enlarged in 1799 by adding part of Dutchess County.
